SHAMCI Network Meeting

23-03-2022
RCREEE in coordination with the Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) held SHAMCI network annual meeting on 20-21 March 2019 in Cairo, Egypt. The members of the network discussed the program latest updates and progress of SHAMCI implementation at the national level in the Arab countries. Attendees represented certification and standardization bodies, testing facilities, energy ministries and agencies, as well as manufacturers and experts in the field of solar thermal energy and quality from various Arab countries. Besides, RCREEE organized a ceremony celebrating the first water heater with SHAMCI mark. In 2017, RCREEE and Egyptian Organization for Standardization & Quality (EOS) signed acooperation agreement authorizing EOS to award “SHAMCI” quality certification for solar thermal products in Egypt as the certification body. Four Egyptian solar water heaters manufacturers submitted a request for the mark. Yet, EOS only granted SHAMCI mark to NOVA company (a solar heater with the capacity of 200 liters) which applied with SHAMCI standards. Currently, EOS is working on the evaluation of the quality of other solar heaters. In addition, RCREEE continues to provide facilities and incentives for the first applicants. About SHAMCI program The Solar Heating Arab Mark and Certification Initiative (SHAMCI) is the first Arab certification scheme for solar thermal products and services in the Arab region. The project provides a regional industrial and regulatory compliance framework for policy makers, industrial sector, and end-consumers. Inspired by the Solar Keymark, SAHMCI is built around specific characteristics and needs of Arab states in the Middle East and North Africa. The project promotes adopting standard quality measures, accreditation systems and quality labels across the Arab region. More details: http://shamci.net/what-shamci
